D-Day

Well D-day has finally arrived. After months and months of preparation and anticipation we said our goodbyes. The kids and I actually left first this time. It was kind of wierd to be leaving Abrahm. When we originally booked the tickets he was supposed to be leaving the same day as me, but you know how plans change in the Army. This actually worked out quite well.

He rode the train with us to Paris and helped get us checked in at the airport. We thought he would be able to go with us to the gate, but we had a misunderstanding with the counter agent and ended up having to say a very quick goodbye at security. It turned out probably better that way, so the goodbye wasn't too long and drawn out. After saying goodbye we went through security. We were taken to the worker's security area with the ticket agent (she wanted to help us through to our gate since Abrahm couldn't). We got right to the front of the line, but we were searched like mad. I was patted down and the kids backpacks were ransacked! Everyone was nice, but it just irritates me that they spend 20 minutes going through my children's things.

The flight was great! We took off a little late, but not too bad. The kids were just about perfect. We did have a problem getting all of us seats together. Neither person next to the windows would trade with us so all three kids could be together. It really irritated me, but what do you do? I put Adalee by me and the two boys across the aisle. After we ate, I moved Adalee into the seat with Alden and all three watched a movie. Adalee fell asleep, but was prompty awakened by the rude window seat guy who got up about 10 minutes after she passed out. So bascially NO ONE slept the entire 9 1/2 hours we were on the plane. The kids enjoyed their Legos, movies and the in flight gaming/video system. Like I said, overall, it was a really good flight.

We arrived in Philadelphia on time. We made it through the passport check, baggage claim and customs fairly uneventfully. When we got outside Grammy was waiting for us. We then hopped on the shuttle from our hotel and headed to the hotel. Once there, we put our suitcases in the room and Aunt Sharon, Uncle Charlie, Mike, Janel, Aislyn and Charlie came for a visit. They brought dinner to our hotel and we enjoyed dinner and catching up for a little while. Even though the kids were really, really tired, they did pretty well. After everyone left, I put the kiddos in their PJs and put them to bed. They passed out immediately.

Unfortunately, I started feeling pretty bad. I got the shakes, and spiked a pretty high fever. I ended up spending some time in the hospital, but that is another story for another night. I am headed to bed now. I hope to be able to update more tomorrow. Thanks for checking in on us!

Hello everyone. Just a quick note to let everyone know that I've arrived in Afghanistan. The trip was long, but not nearly as long as from the states. Hope all is well with everyone. Talk to you later.
