Day 33

Today was a good day. We started out a little slowly just hanging out playing and watching some TV. Then we all got dressed and headed to the market. I hadn't been since before we left a while ago, so it was nice to go again. We picked out our fruit and veggies for the week. There is nothing like super fresh fruit and veggies! We also picked up a roasted chicken and potatoes for lunch. Abrahm usually goes to the market for me or at the very least orders and pays for everything. Today it was all up to me. I actually did pretty well. I even understood how much money they were asking me for (the numbers here are crazy!). We then headed home to have our yummy, fresh lunch.
After lunch some new friends came over for a bit. The kids had fun playing with each other. After they left, we gathered up all the bicycles and helmets and headed to the park. We were quite the sight. I even took Peodogi. It was a little nerve wracking to get all the kiddos across all the streets on their bicycles, but overall it went really well. The kids enjoyed racing around the track and playing on the playground. We even had a special snack. When we stopped by our boulangerie earlier in the day, the owner picked out 3 cookies for the kids and gave them to them. So I saved them for our special snack. They sure were yummy!
We got home and put everything away and I then cooked dinner. We had breakfast for dinner. It tasted pretty good! The kids enjoyed it as well. After dinner I played my first "game" of Pokemon. I have no idea what I was doing or how I was playing. Adam seemed happy, so that was a good thing. We finished up all the homework and now everyone is clean and asleep and ready to start school tomorrow! I hope everyone in the US enjoys their Labor Day vacation tomorrow!

Day 32

We made it a month! Yesterday was the official one month mark of this deployment. Only 5 more to go! That doesn't sound too bad.
Today was a busy Saturday. We awoke with the seranade of a Jazz/Blues band. I heard them and wondered where they were and why they were playing. When I looked out the window I saw that the runners were coming by for the half marathon. It was only 8:30 am, so the kiddos were still in their jammies. I called them and told them to put shoes on, and we headed outside. The band was just a couple of doors down in front of our Boulangerie. The streets were lined with people watching the runners go by. So we decided to hang out with them for a while. The kids danced and cheered on the runners. It was a really fun time! This weekend is the Braderie (think huge yard sale) in Lille. It will bring in over 1 million people to our fair city. Needless to say things get a little crazy around here, so there is no driving anywhere.
We decided to take a little walk to our favorite kebab place for lunch and then head to a small grocery store to pick up a couple of things. After the grocery store, we headed to the park for the kids to play. When we got home I worked with Adam on some of his homework. I also worked on trying to decipher all the notes that the teachers sent home. This is going to prove to be quite challenging since my French speaking hubby up and left me :-)
Well the kiddos are in bed now, so I am going to try to sit back, relax and have a glass of wine and watch the newest episode of Project Runway! Have a great Saturday everyone!

Day 31

Well today was the first full day of school! We all had to be up, dressed and out of the house by 8:25. We made it with a few minutes to spare. Since yesterday was technically Adam's first day and today was Alden and Adalee's first day, I thought I'd make another special breakfast. I made homemade cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. Quite the hit this morning!
We then got dressed and headed over to the school. We dropped Adam off first. Lots of kids were waiting on him and he immediately started playing with his friends. Next I dropped Adalee off at her room. She was a little nervous this morning, but still excited. She was still excited until some little boy came in the room screaming and kicking. She just gave me a look like, "Mommy don't leave me here!", but she went in right away anyways and seemed okay. Then I dropped off Alden at his spot. Once again the teachers greeted him by name and his friends were waiting to see him.
I came home and worked on cleaning up the kitchen from breakfast and then started working on the cake. Three hours passed by way too quickly and it was time to get Adalee and Alden for lunch. I brought them home, fed them lunch and they played a while. At 1:30 I dropped them back off at school. Adalee's class was laying down for naps and Alden's was on the playground. I came back home then, and finished the cake and cleaned some more.
At 4:15 I picked up the kiddos and waited around until my meeting at 4:45. We had a meeting about the French as a Foreign Language Program. Adam will be getting extra French help everyday and then getting help with his homework in the afternoon. After the meeting two other families came over to our house and we ate our "Welcome Back to School" Cake I made.
After they left we had our homemade pizza and watched a new VeggieTales Princess Movie. The kids really enjoyed it and I enjoyed snuggling with all of my sweeties!
This weekend is the Braderie here in Lille. It will be absolutely packed. There are more than a million people that travel into the city for basically a city wide yard sale. I am planning on staying tucked away safely in my little apartment!

Day 30

Today was a big day! Adam started school and Alden and Adalee had their Open Houses. We started off the day with Mickey Mouse Pancakes that I made for the kiddos. They loved them and were quite a special treat. What a great way to start the day.

We then headed over to the school at 10:30 to drop off Adam. It was rather unusual. All of the parents and students waited in the courtyard for a few minutes. Then they opened the doors to the main building and had all the kids go in. They wouldn't let the parents go with them. The kids didn't know which teacher they had or anything. It was a little overwhelming and unsettling. Adam looked a little worried, but went with no problem.

Adalee, Alden and I headed home to eat lunch. At 2:00 we went back over to the school to go to the Open Houses for the Maternelle Sections. I dropped off Adalee's supplies and filled out paperwork. She met her teacher and played with the toys. She seemed to have a good time. We'll see tomorrow. We then headed over to Alden's class. His teacher knew him from last year so that was a pretty easy transition. We dropped off his supplies and he ran into some of his old friends.

We then came home for a few minutes and I made some M&M cookies for Adam's after school snack. At 4:30 we headed to the school to pick him up. He said he had a great day and enjoyed playing with his friends. We came home and had the cookies and some milk. For dinner I made Adam's favorite dinner and then we took Peodogi for a walk to the park. All in all a pretty good day. Tomorrow morning all 3 go for the day. I will pick Adalee and Alden up for lunch, but othewise it will be a full day!
